Targeting giant bluefin tuna is a unique fishery that requires dedicated time and specific equipment. We have been blessed in recent years with an abundance of bluefin tunas ranging in size from 10 to 1,000 pounds. Fishing for giant bluefins is similar to other offshore charters, but with some key differences. Tackle size is much larger, and absolute patience is necessary. The day begins by catching live bait to supplement our prepared frozen baits. Once on the tuna fishing grounds, we spend time analyzing the waters to find the most opportunistic spot to set up. We may move around many times throughout the day, looking for bait accumulations, whale activities, and other favorable indicators. Sometimes, we spend all day waiting for that one bite. But when it comes, it is a most exhilarating experience.
